The long robe is exceptionally elaborate, with raised ornament and rows of green, red and pale mirror or glass inlay. The raised right hand forms Abhaya mudra, the classic gesture of protection and reassurance.

Execution

The gilded face has the serene, refined modelling associated with Mandalay sculpture. Dense hair curls, elongated earlobes, a slender silhouette and richly framed robe panels create the presence of a substantial temple image. The figure stands on a decorated lotus base above a separate black plinth.

Condition

Good antique condition with visible age-related wear. The black lacquer and gilding show natural rubbing and local losses; many glass inlays remain, with scattered small losses and signs of use. The aged surface contributes strongly to the historic character of the sculpture.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1012/6170/5547/files/burmese-standing-mandalay-buddha-front.jpg?v=1790944032
