• Signature of the Master: At the bottom right, within the foaming surf, lies the pristine, original signature "R. Doorn". The signature has been brushed in with bone-dry, light oil paint and is organically interwoven with the underlying paint surface.
• Powerful Impasto Technique: The threatening cloudy sky, the foaming waves, and the splashing surf have been applied to the canvas with a thick, palpable paint texture (impasto). The stepped sunlight breaks beautifully across the sails and the foam crests.
• Unrestored Reverse: The back of the painting provides irrefutable proof of sheer age. The original wooden stretcher frame with authentic corner wedges shows deep, bone-dry golden-brown wood oxidation. The woven linen canvas has yellowed evenly over the decades.
