Powerful archaic expression
The pierced round eyes, strongly projecting nose, broad mouth with incised teeth and rhythmically grooved upper section give this mask a forceful presence within the ritual folk traditions of Nepal’s Middle Hills.
Carving and surface
The front is deeply carved and flanked by spiral cheek and temple motifs. The reverse is roughly and deeply hollowed. The dark surface preserves long-developed patina, abrasion, small losses, open drying cracks and weathered wood fibres.
Condition
Good antique condition with clear signs of age and use. A vertical drying crack runs through the front and remains visible at the underside. Additional old cracks, edge damage and minor material losses are present.
