Antique gilded reclining Buddha from Thailand
An impressive Thai temple statue with a deep presence, old patina, and visible remnants of original gilding.
This antique bronze statue depicts the Buddha in the Parinirvana posture, lying on his side with his head resting on his hand. This posture refers to the moment when the Buddha enters nirvana and is seen within the Thai Buddhist tradition as a powerful symbol of tranquility, completion, and inner liberation.
The sculpture is made of bronze and features a convincing aged surface effect with dark oxidation, a greenish-blue patina, and locally visible remnants of gilding. These traces give the sculpture a rich, historical character and indicate an originally more richly finished temple object.
Due to its size of 77 cm, the serene posture, and natural wear, this sculpture has a strong presence. It is a remarkable object for an interior, a meditation space, or a collection of authentic Asian art.
