Four Buddhas turn a miniature stupa into a directional image
This small bronze is more complex than its 10.5 cm height suggests. Seated Buddhas occupy the four sides, creating a devotional image that can be approached from every direction. The stepped square base, domed body and ascending superstructure connect the object with Buddhist metalwork produced in eastern India under the Pala tradition.
An 11th-century date is our strongest working hypothesis. We retain the more responsible catalogue range of c. 10th–12th century, with Bihar or Bengal the likely region of origin.
