Laughing Buddha (Budai) in bronze – lucky symbol lot 141

A Unique Piece of History: Antique Laughing Buddha Statue (Lot 141)

This extraordinary Chinese bronze statue of Budai, beloved worldwide as the Happy Buddha, is a masterpiece for lovers of Asian art and antiques. With an estimated value between €450 and €650, this object represents not only significant historical value but also the timeless symbolism of the Happy Buddha. The statue radiates the classic values of prosperity, contentment, and happiness, exactly as one might expect from an authentic smiling Buddha statue.

Craftsmanship and Deep Patina

What makes this specific statue unique is the deep, historical patina, which possibly indicates an origin from the early Qing Dynasty or even earlier. With dimensions of H 21 x W 28.5 cm, this smiling Buddha statue has an impressive presence. The details in the base and the robe are clear but softly worn, which is characteristic of a Happy Buddha that has been cherished for decades. The natural wear in the recessed areas gives the bronze a calm, weathered appearance that fits perfectly into a high-end collection.

The Happy Buddha as a Symbol of Prosperity

In Chinese tradition, the Happy Buddha is often placed as a good luck charm in the home or in a business environment. The relaxed reclining posture and the open, smiling face of this Happy Buddha create a friendly and approachable atmosphere.
