This exceptional bronze statue is a masterpiece of Javanese craftsmanship. With an imposing height of 58 cm and a weight of 7.5 kg, this statue represents the classic spiritual aesthetic of Central Java. The Buddha is seated in the Bhumisparsha mudra on a unique, architectural throne.
Characteristic of this Javanese example is the stepped pedestal, which symbolizes the sacred Mount Meru and is directly inspired by the structures of the Javanese Candi temples. The double lotus throne is crafted with round, full leaves that support the Buddha in an atmosphere of absolute serenity and stability.
The heavy casting (7.5 kg) and the full, round forms of the body are typical of Javanese bronze art. The patina is deep and richly developed, with a warm glow that accentuates the manual finishing of the metal. The inside of the base displays authentic mineral deposits and casting residues that confirm the historical integrity of this masterpiece.
