A pair of Japanese kokeshi, 25 and 24.4 cm tall, turned from wood with part of the natural bark left in place. They date from the second half of the 20th century, and each round head carries a cheerful painted face with a red bow in the hair.
A dark blue band around the body is painted with Mount Fuji, a waterfall and green trees, alongside lines of Japanese text in white. The contrast between the pale bark and the painted field makes the pair especially decorative.
Good condition. The bark shows natural irregularities and a few knots; light signs of use consistent with age.
Each object is examined before it is offered: material, casting or carving technique, surface, and signs of age are compared with documented references. You will receive a certificate of authenticity and an official invoice detailing the period, material, and available provenance.
Fully insured worldwide shipping in museum-quality packaging. Returns are sent to our Dutch address and you have a 14-day cooling-off period.
