Authentic Antique Wooden Shaman Mask – 18.5 cm / 400g – Himalayan Region – ca. 1900

Specifications: H 18.5 × W 12.5 cm | Weight: 400 grams (Bone-dry, antique wood) | Layered Ritual Smoke Patina | Intense Biological Wear Gloss

We proudly present a raw, characterful, and forensically verified masterpiece within the Asian Tribal Art section: an authentic antique hand-carved wooden shaman mask / ritual dance mask from the mountain regions of the Himalayas (Central Nepal). This impressive, archaic object dates from the late 19th to early 20th century (ca. 1890-1920). With a manageable size of 18.5 cm and an extremely light weight of 400 grams, this is a thoroughly honest collector's item in which all natural juices have completely disappeared over the decades.

Archaic Form Language & Untamed Primal Power

This mask stands out for its minimalist, brutal simplicity and brings a powerful, mystical atmosphere as exclusive wall decoration or as a stand-alone object in any high-end interior:

  • Primitive Anatomy: The almond-shaped viewing holes for the eyes and the large, angular oral cavity have been carved out of the tree trunk with powerful blows. The ears are carved as two minimalist, upright rectangular wooden blocks, which is typical of early shamanistic art from the region.
  • Layered Temple Patina: The front shows a bone-dry, deep black and grainy crust of absorbed animal fats, incense soot, and ambient ash from fireplaces. The edges are soft and organically rounded by decades of devotion.

Forensic Evidence of Ritual Use (Back)

The inside of the wooden bowl provides unfalsifiable, laboratory-worthy evidence of actual active use by a shaman, completely free from modern export or tourist fakes:

  • Intense Organic Wear Shine: The inner edges along the forehead, jaws, and chin show a deep, oily, and mirror-smooth polished finish shine. This is the direct result of prolonged human skin contact, where sweat and skin oils have been rubbed into the dry wood over generations.
  • Original Attachment Cord: The mask is still fitted with the authentic, historical thin attachment cord that runs through the hand-drilled side holes. The holes show clear mechanical wear caused by the tension of the carrying straps during ritual dances.
