Antique Chinese Kwanyin (88 cm) – Hand-carved Camphor wood Qing Dynasty

Antique Kwanyin of Camphor Wood from China

This antique Kwanyin is a large and characterful Chinese devotional statue, hand-carved from solid camphor wood and executed in old polychromy. The calm closed eyes, the gentle facial expression, and the flowing robes give the statue exactly the serene presence you expect from a traditional representation of Kwanyin, the bodhisattva of compassion. With a size of 88 cm, this piece makes an immediate impact and has a strong presence in an interior, both spiritually and decoratively. The statue shows clear signs of age and use, with natural wear on the paintwork, a beautifully weathered surface, and an authentic appearance that does not look artificial. The solid camphor wood complements South Chinese religious sculpture well and lends the whole piece extra conviction. The scent of the wood is also still recognizable, which aligns beautifully with the traditional choice of material. The combination of old wood, original paintwork, and hand-carved details makes this a powerful and honest object with a real presence. The lotus base and the traditional color scheme in blue, red, green, and black reinforce the religious character, while the visible wear adds charm and credibility. This is not a sleek or sterile decorative piece, but an old statue with history, presence, and warmth. A special piece for lovers of Asian art, Chinese religious objects, and authentic antique wooden sculptures.
