19th-century Ganesha in bronze, antique handmade statue – lot 117
Antique handmade bronze Ganesha statue from the 19th century, originating from the Himalayas or North India. The statue depicts Ganesha in a relaxed reclining position on a daybed, a rare and playful iconographic variant that differs significantly from the more formal seated representations. The design, asymmetry, and clear differences between the left and right sides confirm manual craftsmanship rather than mass production.
The surface displays a weathered patina with signs of wear consistent with prolonged use and age. Remnants of old gilding are visible in recessed areas, with natural oxidation underneath. The base and construction suggest a traditionally cast statue without modern interventions. One leg is missing, which is consistent with age and use and does not detract from the authenticity.
