This bronze Buddha depicts Shakyamuni in Dhyana mudra, seated in a meditative posture with a patra (alms bowl) in both hands. The statue is sober and powerfully sculpted, with a serene facial expression, elongated earlobes, and a simply rendered monk's robe.
The statue was hollow-cast using the traditional lost-wax technique. The base was originally sealed and has been broken open in the past, revealing remnants of the original clay core. The interior shows natural multi-layered corrosion and mineral deposits, consistent with long-term age and ritual use. There are no modern materials or later interventions present.
In protected areas, particularly around the eyes and in deeper details, remnants of original fire gilding are visible. Protruding parts such as shoulders, hair, and face show smooth wear from prolonged devotional touching.
Overall, this points to an authentic Himalayan temple statue from the 17th century, crafted in a regional Northwest Himalayan workshop.
