A large statue of a kneeling monk in Burmese style, approx. 87 cm in length and weighing 17.4 kg. The monk is bowed forward on his knees and forearms, head lowered and hands brought together before him with open palms: a posture of deep veneration.
The head, arms and feet are painted white, with finely drawn eyes and a mild, focused face. The robe is black-lacquered, and the shoulder cloth and robe borders are gilded with foliate motifs and inlaid with green glass pieces. An impressive decorative piece with great presence.
Good condition. There are minor signs of use, such as fine hairlines in the paint layer and small spots of damaged paint or gilding; please see the detail photos.
Each object is examined before it is offered: material, casting or carving technique, surface, and signs of age are compared with documented references. You will receive a certificate of authenticity and an official invoice detailing the period, material, and available provenance.
Fully insured worldwide shipping in museum-quality packaging. Returns are sent to our Dutch address and you have a 14-day cooling-off period.
