Wooden Buddha Wall Mask – Mandalay Style, 27.5 cm

Hand-carved in wood in the Mandalay style, this Buddha face is made to hang on the wall and dates from the second half of the 20th century. Measuring 27.5 cm and weighing only 0.7 kg, it hangs easily from its cord loop and adds a calm focal point to a living room, hallway or meditation corner.

The Buddha's eyes are half-closed and lowered, and his lips form a gentle smile. A raised band traces the hairline, a smooth rounded ushnisha rises above it, and long earlobes fall gracefully at the sides. The grain of the wood shows across the whole face beneath a warm honey-toned finish that deepens in the recesses.

The back has been hollowed out by hand and painted dark, still showing the gouge marks of the carver. The mask is in good condition, with light handling wear along the rim at the back.
