About 1stbuddha
Our History & Philosophy
From the Amsterdam Canals
to the Silk Road
The foundations of 1stbuddha were laid thirty years ago in the Golden Bend on the Herengracht in Amsterdam. What began as a passion in the historic heart of the Dutch art trade led us along the P.C. Hooftstraat to the far corners of the world.
"At 1stbuddha, we don't sell decoration, but heritage. And the most important characteristic of true antique? The factory has been closed for 200 years."
The Silk Road Quarter
Driven by the need to be closer to the source, we moved our operations to Kyrgyzstan. From the Silk Road Quarter, we spent years curating our current collection. This period allowed us to discover forgotten pieces directly at the source and bring their stories back to life.
Focus on Masterpieces: "Senza Titolo" by Antonio Sciacca. The bridge between tradition and modernity.
Validated Expertise: Our appraiser at work at 1stbuddha.
From Exploration to Repatriation
Where we used to source objects from Asia, the market has now shifted. Asia has become a major buyer; we now reverently return important heritage to collectors in its region of origin. Our passion lies in rediscovery: giving forgotten pieces the voice they deserve through thirty years of iconographic knowledge.
Present: Personal Service
Today, we advise and appraise for various leading companies in the sector. Although our head office is officially located in Estonia, quality control and insured shipping take place from our depots in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. Personal Dutch service remains our unwavering core.
