Antique Hand-cast Bronze Shiva Nataraja Statue – 35 cm / 4.00 kg – South India – ca. 1900
Specifications: H 35 × W 28 cm | Weight: 4.00 kg (Extremely heavy, thick-walled casting) | Verified Malachite Patina | Hollow Base with Core Remains
We proudly present a monumental, extraordinarily heavy, and forensically verified masterpiece of Indian metal casting: an antique cast bronze statue of Shiva Nataraja (the King of Dance). This powerful sculpture dates from the early 20th century (South India, ca. 1900-1920). With a height of 35 cm and a massive weight of no less than 4.00 kg, this openwork metal casting represents an exceptionally massive and rare quality within the Asian antique trade.
Cosmic Iconography & Metal Biology
This heavy bronze altarpiece excels through its fabulous detailing and brings an intense atmosphere of dynamic balance and historical dominance to any high-end interior or exclusive collection:
- The Sacred Dance of Creation: Shiva is depicted in the traditional Ananda Tandava posture within a large, circular halo of flames. With his right foot, he tramples the dwarf demon Apasmara, the symbol of spiritual ignorance and the ego.
- Verified Natural Copper Patina: The metal surface possesses a brilliant, deep chocolate-brown patina skin. In the deep crevices, the base folds, and around the flowing locks of hair (jatas), a dry, granular green-blue malachite deposit (verdigris) has formed over the course of many decades. This is the unfalsifiable signature of pure, pre-industrial age.
- Solid Open Base: The stepped, rectangular base with cast-in lotus leaves is traditionally hollow cast. Deep within the central cavity, the original, bone-dry and rock-hard fired casting core remnants of clay and ash are visible, irrefutable proof of handiwork using the lost-wax method.
