This imposing, antique 19th-century Burmese Buddha statue (late Konbaung dynasty) is a beautiful example of the classic Mandalay style. This monolithic temple statue, entirely hand-carved from a single block of tropical hardwood, exudes the atmosphere of a historic temple space. Despite its venerable age and the presence of some historical cracks in the wood, this statue is in magnificent condition, elegantly reflecting the passage of time.
Artisanal Finish & Patina
The statue features an authentic, historical pigment build-up:
- Golden Patina: The original, hand-applied 24-carat gold leaf has naturally worn in the contact zones, revealing the deep cinnabar-red primer and the black Thit-si lacquer layer beneath.
- Glass Art: The 'Pata' headband and the ornate borders of the 'civara' robe are richly embellished with hand-cut mirror glass tesserae (Hmankazi), embedded in refined Thayo lacquer relief.
