Antique Burmese Mandalay Buddha Statue – Gilded Wood with Inlaid Eyes
This large antique Burmese Mandalay Buddha statue is an impressive wooden devotional statue from Myanmar, dating from circa 1880–1920. The Buddha sits in the classic bhumisparsha mudra, the earth-touching posture that symbolizes enlightenment, steadfastness, and spiritual victory.
The statue is carved from wood and finished with warm gilding over a traditional red lacquer layer. The natural wear on the gold and the visible red underlayer give the statue a powerful antique character and a distinct temple-like appearance. A special detail is the inlaid eyes, which give the face extra depth and liveliness. Together with the serene facial expression, the finely crafted robe, and the richly decorated base, this makes the statue a strong and atmospheric Mandalay piece. The bhumisparsha mudra represents grounding, protection, wisdom, and overcoming obstacles. Therefore, this statue is highly suitable for an altar, meditation room, entrance, living room, or interior where tranquility, meaning, and spiritual presence take center stage.
