The relief is carved entirely from a single solid plank and depicts Shiva in his cosmic dance, a symbol of creation, destruction, and rebirth. The dynamic multi-armed pose, the snake, and the dwarf figure refer to classical Shiva iconography as applied in South Indian temple architecture. The object was originally intended as an architectural element in a temple or shrine and was later fitted with a hanging loop for use as a wall object. The deep carving technique, clear hand chisel marks, and natural wear confirm traditional craftsmanship and age. The wood displays a warm, weathered patina without modern finishing.
