Miao ceremonial metalwork
This antique crown belongs to the ceremonial head ornaments associated with Miao communities of Southwest China, particularly Guizhou. Tall rising elements, suspended ornaments and richly worked relief decoration give the piece its distinctive ceremonial character.
Hand-worked bronze
The crown is made entirely of bronze and formed by hand. The lower band carries worked decorative panels, while the elevated ornaments and hanging pendants create movement and sound when worn or handled.
Patina and age
The bronze surface has developed a deep brown to greenish patina with oxidation and wear consistent with long-term use. Surviving pendants and bells reinforce the ceremonial function of the piece.
Condition
Age-related wear, oxidation, small deformations and surface losses are present, preserving the crown's strong historic and ethnographic character.
