Antique Mandala Thangka
Early 20th century - Hand-painted with Authentic Wax Seal
"A rare spiritual heritage: the macro details and the historic wax seal bear witness to an authentic age and deep devotion."
At 1stbuddha, we do not sell decoration, but heritage.
Authentic Wax Seal
The presence of the authentic wax seal on the back of the canvas is a crucial feature for the collector. Historically, such seals were placed by monastic authorities or as proof of export expertise, confirming the careful provenance of this Thangka. The seal, combined with the natural oxidation of the mineral pigments, places this object in the first half of the 20th century. This underscores the character of authentic older Asian craftsmanship.
Cosmic Mandala
This Thangka depicts a complex mandala, executed by hand on prepared cotton. The central geometric representation of the cosmos is surrounded by protective deities and Buddhas in a cloud landscape. The framing of traditional purple silk brocade displays the correct aging characteristics and enhances the museum-quality appearance of this nearly 90 cm tall spiritual artwork.
