Antique Fire-Gilded Nataraja – Lord Shiva
This impressive Nataraja depicts Lord Shiva as the cosmic dancer in his Ananda Tandava pose. The statue is crafted in a heavy bronze/metal alloy and retains beautiful remnants of traditional fire-gilding. The refined, manual finish (chasing) is visible in the sharp details of the sea of flames (Prabha Mandala) and the facial features of the deity. With a height of 43 cm and a substantial weight of 5.8 kg, this is a powerful ritual object. What makes this piece unique is the authentic 'worship patina': deep-seated mineral deposits and salt crystals in the grooves bear witness to decades of devotion and ritual use. The transition from the brilliant gold accents to the dark, weathered patina gives the sculpture a museum-quality appearance.
A rare and solid collector's item for connoisseurs of early 20th-century Indian art and lovers of objects with a tangible history.
