This heavy, hand-cast brass peacock is a classic example of 19th-century Indian metalwork. In its original function, this object served as a Pandan or Supari box, essential for storing ingredients for the traditional betel ceremony (paan).

• Weight & Casting: With a substantial weight of 1.6 kg, this vessel was manufactured using the traditional sand casting method. The thickness of the walls confirms high-quality craftsmanship from the late 19th century.
• Surface analysis: Dino-Lite macro shots reveal authentic mineral deposits and crystallization in the deeper parts of the engravings. This white mineral "bloom" is the result of decades of oxidation and residues of ritual lime.
• Iconography: The peacock, the national bird of India, is depicted with great precision. The tail feathers, crest, and neck are hand-finished with refined chisel marks.
• Integrity: The original hinge and locking mechanism are functional. There is fair mechanical wear consistent with intensive ceremonial use. No modern coatings or restorations were found.
