Antique Burmese Mandalay Buddha Statue – Gilded Wood with Glass Decoration
This antique Burmese Mandalay Buddha statue is a richly decorated wooden statue from Myanmar, dating from circa 1880–1920. The Buddha sits in the classic bhumisparsha mudra, the earth-touching posture that refers to enlightenment, inner strength, and overcoming negative influences.
The statue is carved from wood and finished with a warm gold-colored gilding. The robe, sleeves, base, and back are richly decorated with inlaid glass stones and refined decorative patterns. This gives the statue a lively, spiritual appearance that is instantly recognizable as the Burmese Mandalay style. The natural wear on the gilding, the dark areas in the recessed parts, and the aged appearance of the decoration give the statue an authentic antique character. The fully detailed back, in particular, makes this piece attractive, as it presents a strong presence not only from the front but all around. A Buddha in bhumisparsha mudra symbolizes grounding, protection, wisdom, and steadfastness. This makes the statue highly suitable for an altar, meditation room, living room, entrance, or interior where tranquility, meaning, and spiritual presence are central.
