A substantial crowned Buddha from Thailand, seated in the regal Ayutthaya style. Standing 60 cm tall and weighing 16.5 kg, it carries the presence of a temple image, with a tall pointed crown, wing-like shoulder pieces and richly worked jewellery.
The Buddha sits in the lotus position, his right hand reaching over the knee to call the earth to witness (bhumisparsha mudra) while the left rests open in his lap. The crown rises to a smooth spire and is decorated with rosettes, scrollwork and large ear flaps. Beneath him, a double lotus sits on a pierced hexagonal foot.
Hollow cast in bronze, it has an even brown patina. The detail remains crisp, with light wear confined to the highest points.
