A carved Thai wooden Buddha seated in meditation, hands resting in dhyana mudra. A flame-shaped ketumala crowns the head, and the gilded robe is decorated with flowers and beads. At 28 cm tall, this meditation Buddha brings a quiet focus to a shelf, cabinet or home altar.
Black snail-shell curls frame the face, and an urna marks the forehead. The gilding and paint show the gentle wear of the years, giving the figure a warm, lived-in character. Carved in Thailand around 1950–1980 as a decorative piece.
Wear to the gilding and paint, in keeping with its age. The underside is dark and fitted with later black caps.
