Monumental Thai Sukhothai Buddha – 40 cm – 6 kg

This impressive bronze statue is a masterful example of the Thai Sukhothai style, dating from the early 20th century (Rattanakosin period). The statue exudes the classical elegance for which Thai Buddhist art is known: a streamlined body, an egg-shaped face, and a refined, serene expression. With a height of 40 cm and a weight of no less than 6 kilograms, this is a solid masterpiece with a powerful spiritual presence.

Bhumisparsha Mudra: The Moment of Enlightenment

The Buddha is seated in the Mara Vijaya posture, with the right hand touching the earth. This symbolic gesture marks the moment of enlightenment, in which the Buddha asks the earth to bear witness to his unwavering determination. The statue rests on a richly decorated double lotus throne, placed on a sturdy hexagonal base.

Authentic Casting Core and Patina

The inside of the statue contains the original, petrified casting core of ferrous clay. This 'dino' is a crucial feature of authentic Thai casting and explains the enormous mass of 6 kg. The deep, dark brown patina on the bronze has developed naturally over time and gives the object a beautiful, weathered shine.
