Gold-plated Thai Buddha Statue – Rattanakosin Royal Buddha – Abhaya Mudra – Approx. 1920-1950
Retail price: € 395.–
Offered is a refined and spiritually charged Thai Buddha statue from the first half of the 20th century, executed in the classic Rattanakosin style. The Buddha is depicted in royal court attire with a richly elaborate crown (mokot), graceful shoulder ornaments, and finely decorated robes with floral motifs.
The figure displays the right hand in the traditional Abhaya Mudra, the centuries-old Buddhist gesture of protection, peace, and inner reassurance. Within the Thai Buddhist tradition, this gesture symbolizes the expulsion of fear, negative energy, and unrest. Consequently, a standing Abhaya Buddha is often placed in living spaces, meditation rooms, or entrances as a symbol of harmony, balance, and spiritual protection.
The sculpture features an elegant vertical design with an exceptionally slender silhouette. The original gilding displays beautiful natural wear and deep dark patination, giving the object an authentic and weathered appearance. In particular, the combination of the gold tones with the older dark underlayer creates a warm, almost sacred look that perfectly complements both serene minimalist interiors and more eclectic Wabi-Sabi settings.
Authenticity feature: The base still contains the original traditional casting core consisting of old casting clay and ash residue. This is typical of authentic Thai bronze sculptures produced using the lost-wax technique and constitutes important evidence of traditional production.
A particularly decorative and spiritual object that is not only aesthetically impressive but also carries a deeper symbolic meaning within the Buddhist tradition.
