This characteristic, vintage Tibetan dragon ewer (teapot) from the late 20th century (c. 1970–1990) is a beautiful example of Himalayan export craftsmanship from the Nepal or India region. With a height of 28.5 cm and a width of 23.0 cm, this object has a strong decorative presence. The ewer is manually assembled from thin sheets of red copper, which keeps the structure surprisingly light and manageable, weighing 600 grams.

The body is richly decorated all around with applied repoussé plates of a silver alloy (paktong), including detailed depictions of mythological dragons. This vintage atmospheric piece is ideally suited as an ethnic accent within a well-curated, worldly interior.

Construction & Craftsmanship Features

The teapot displays the honest and pure characteristics of traditional workshop soldering. Instead of high-prestige, sterile metallurgy, this object testifies to authentic manual craftsmanship. The copper body is adorned with finely worked paktong elements on the neck, lid, and belly, while the ornate handle and spout reflect classic Asian design language. The lid is crowned with an elegant, leaf-shaped finial.

Material Analysis & Condition Verification

  • Copper and Solder Joints: The construction is built from thin-walled copper sheeting. Along the artisanal solder seams and the transitions to the spout and handle, the original solder traces are clearly visible.
  • Natural Green Verdigris: Around the solder lines and the brass rim of the base, there is an authentic buildup of green verdigris (copper acetate). This natural oxidation process confirms the age of the copper and enhances the weathered character of the object.
  • Origin and Traces of Use: The underside shows a mounted brass stand ring. In the center of the base, white glue residues are visible from a historical, modern retail or import paper label, which underscores the export history of this ewer.
