Antique bronze Buddha statue from Ladakh, Western Himalayas, ca. 1800–1850. The Buddha is depicted in Bhumisparsha mudra, the earth-touching gesture symbolizing enlightenment. The statue is traditionally cast hollow and finished with original fire gilding (mercury gilding) in high-karat gold (approx. 24k). Under UV examination and macroscopic inspection, clear remnants of old fire gilding are visible, with natural wear on prominent areas and gold residue in recessed relief, consistent with prolonged ritual use and natural aging. The gilding shows no characteristics of modern re-gilding, lacquer, or galvanic finishing. The style and execution are consistent with late-Ladakh production from the first half of the 19th century. Dimensions approximately H 31 cm, weight approximately 4 kg. An authentic religious object with a subdued appearance, intended for collectors who value authenticity, material, and technique over decorative perfection. As proof of authenticity, we include the UV photos.
