Antique bronze Buddha statue from Ladakh, Western Himalayas, ca. 1800–1850. The Buddha is depicted in Bhumisparsha mudra, the earth invocation gesture symbolizing enlightenment. The statue is traditionally hollow-cast and features original mercury gilding in high-karat gold (approx. 24k). Under UV examination and macroscopic inspection, clear remnants of old mercury gilding are visible, with natural wear on protruding parts and gold residue in recessed relief, consistent with prolonged ritual use and natural aging. The gilding shows no signs of modern regilding, lacquer, or electroplating. The style and execution are consistent with late Ladakh production from the first half of the 19th century. Dimensions approx. H 31 cm, weight approx. 4 kg. An authentic religious object with an understated appearance, intended for collectors who value authenticity, material, and technique over decorative perfection. We have included the UV photos as proof of authenticity.
