Antique Burmese Mandalay Buddha Statue – Gilded Wood with Glass Decoration
This antique Burmese Mandalay Buddha statue is a beautifully carved devotional statue from Myanmar, dating from circa 1880–1920. The Buddha sits in the classic bhumisparsha mudra, the earth-touching posture that refers to enlightenment, inner strength, and spiritual victory.
The statue is carved from wood and finished with traditional gilding. The richly decorated robe is inlaid with decorative glass stones, typical of the Burmese Mandalay style. The warm gold color, serene facial expression, and rich ornamentation give this statue a powerful, calm, and spiritual appearance. The natural wear on the gilding, especially on the hands, knees, edges, and raised parts, gives the statue an authentic antique character. The dark underside with visible wood grain is also fitting for a traditionally crafted and old devotional object. A Buddha in bhumisparsha mudra symbolizes grounding, protection, wisdom, and overcoming obstacles. This makes this statue particularly suitable for an altar, meditation room, entrance, living room, or interior where tranquility and meaning take center stage.
