Antique Burmese Nat Spirit – Gilded Wooden Temple Statue from Myanmar

Price: €695

This authentic Burmese temple statue likely represents a Nat Spirit, a protective and revered spiritual figure from the traditional religious culture of Myanmar. Unlike Buddha statues, Nat spirits represent protectors, ancestors, and celestial beings who, according to Burmese tradition, watch over places, families, and communities.

The statue is crafted from wood and finished with traditional black lacquer, red undercoats, and remnants of original gilding. The crown still features original mirror and glass inlay, a technique widely used in Burmese temples and shrines. The back contains a ritual niche that could originally have been used for relics, prayer scrolls, or offerings. Over the centuries, the statue has developed an impressive character. The visible wear, old restorations, remnants of gilding, layers of lacquer, and inscriptions on the base collectively tell the story of an object that was actually used for religious purposes. As a result, it possesses an aura that modern reproductions cannot match. For lovers of Asian art, Buddhist culture, and authentic temple objects, this constitutes a particularly decorative and historical object with a strong spiritual presence.
