Antique Fiery Red Hand-Turned Lacquerware Ginger Jar with Lid – Asian Art – ca. 1900 H 25 x W 29

Specifications: Hand-Turned Solid Wood | Laminated Natural Lacquer | Includes Original Lid | Authentic Base Ring Wear

We proudly present a particularly elegant and high-quality masterpiece of the traditional Asian lacquerware craft: an antique, fiery red hand-turned wooden lacquerware storage jar / ginger jar with original lid. This characterful object dates from the early 20th century (approx. 1900-1920) and is in fabulous, unrestored antique condition. A pristine example of pre-industrial craftsmanship that bears witness to decades of devotion and careful use.

Laminated Lacquer Skin & Timeless Design

This lacquerware pot stands out for its minimalist, powerful design and brings a warm, historically weathered atmosphere to any high-end or modern Asian interior:

  • Hand-Turned Wooden Base: The underside of the pot displays the flawless, concentric circular grooves of the traditional manual lathe. The pot is shaped from a single solid block of wood using brute craftsmanship, guaranteeing stable and heavy quality.
  • Traditional Tree Resin Lacquer: The entire surface is built up from countless successive layers of natural red lacquer paste. The hide displays those brilliant, fine horizontal brushstrokes and crackle marks typical of early lacquer workshops.
  • Fair Stand Ring Wear: Along the lower stand ring, the red lacquer layer has worn away completely naturally due to decades of use and shifting. The exposed, bone-dry antique hardwood displays its characteristic 'sugar skin' here, the ultimate and unfalsifiable proof of pure age.
