Antique Thai Bronze Buddha on Lotus Base with Deep Patina
A particularly characterful bronze Buddha from Thailand, executed in a classic meditation pose and placed on a beautifully crafted lotus base. What immediately distinguishes this statue is the rich, deep patina with layers of green, brown, and red tones that have built up naturally over a long period of time. This skin is not smooth but alive, with wear on protruding parts and compaction in the deeper zones, exactly as you would expect from older bronzes.
The Buddha sits calmly and balanced, with a soft, restrained expression and a slender physique. The high ushnisha, the fine hair structure, and the organically shaped lotus base give the whole a distinctly traditional character. The decorative curls at the base also make this statue visually stronger and ensure that it distinguishes itself from more standard Thai bronzes.
An important technical detail is the underside, where clear remnants of the original dark core filling are still visible. This encrusted mass is typical of traditional casting techniques and confirms that this is not a modern reproduction, but an older cast object with genuine signs of use and age. Moreover, the الموجود export label reinforces the story of early export to Europe and gives the piece extra character.
