This is a unique and historically valuable example of a Dento Kokeshi from the traditional Togatta lineage, crafted by the celebrated master artisan Yoshio Ogasawara (1930–present). This piece is particularly special due to a rare, autobiographical inscription on the bottom, where the master noted his age (57 years) at the time of creation.
The design follows the historical formal characteristics of the old master Minosuke, characterized by a slender, stepped body and an elegant cylindrical base. The head is decorated with a refined red halo motif (Tehen), while the face displays a cheerful, expressive look. The body is masterfully painted with layered red chrysanthemums (Kiku) and blue-green leaves. On the bottom, next to Yoshio's signature, is the rare inscription '五十七才', which makes this object a personal and collectible document within his oeuvre.
The object is in very good vintage condition. Over the years, the wood has developed a warm, natural patina, and the colors have remained stable and bright. The slender construction is completely intact, making this an excellently preserved masterpiece for the serious collector.
