This is a remarkable historical collectible: an authentic Dento Kokeshi from the Togatta lineage, crafted by the celebrated master artisan Yoshio Ogasawara (1930–present). This particular piece dates from 1971 and features exceptionally rare and complete documentation, including a clear Western calendar year inscription on the base.
The design is a masterful execution of the Togatta style, with Ogasawara honoring the model of master Minosuke. The doll stands out with its delicate red halo motif (Tehen) with blue-green accents on the head. The body is beautifully decorated with a powerful, hand-painted black tree trunk from which vibrant red plum blossoms (Ume) emerge. The back shows the natural beauty of the untreated wood, combined with an elaborate, brush-applied master signature.
The object is in excellent vintage condition. The wood is stable and shows a beautiful, mild patina consistent with its age of over 50 years. The colors are excellently preserved, making this an aesthetically and historically valuable piece for any serious Kokeshi collector.
