This is an authentic Dento Kokeshi from the traditional Tsuchiyu lineage, crafted by the respected master artisan Eisaku Abe (1925–2003). This Kokeshi is an excellent example of the minimalist and refined style for which the Tsuchiyu school is known.
The doll stands out with the iconic 'Janome' (snake eye) pattern on the top of its head, characterized by a concentric design in red, black, and green/blue. The face displays the serene, classic Tsuchiyu expression with refined side locks. The cylindrical body is adorned with expressive, abstract floral brushstrokes in red and green/blue, complemented by the characteristic 'Rokuro-bany' rings at the base. On the underside is the authentic, handwritten signature of the master.
The object is in good vintage condition with an authentic and lived-in character. The wood has developed a warm natural patina, and the pigments show the mild, even fading typical of an object from this period. This is an ideal piece for both novice and experienced collectors of Japanese folk art.
