19th-century bronze Buddha on temple base, Thailand.
This Thai Buddha statue radiates peace and stability and is made to have a permanent place in a space where silence and focus are central. The posture with the hand towards the earth (Bhumisparsha mudra) symbolizes the moment of enlightenment and gives the statue a strong, grounded appearance.
The statue is made of bronze and stands on an original temple base, which immediately suggests use in a ritual or home altar setting. The combination of the lotus-shaped seat and the raised pedestal gives the whole a powerful presence.
The natural wear and patina are consistent with age and use. The underside shows an open structure as is common with traditional casting.
