Name:
Antique Thai Buddha statue in Bhumisparsha mudra – fire-gilded bronze, 19th century
Description:
This is an authentic Thai Buddha statue in the classic Bhumisparsha mudra, cast in bronze and originally fire-gilded. In the recessed zones and folds, old gold is clearly visible that is embedded in the surface rather than lying on top, typical of traditional fire-gilding. The design is austere and powerful, with a serene posture and a correctly executed lotus base. The interior shows a rough casting texture with natural oxidation and no modern coatings, confirming its age. This type of statue was used as a home altar and is intended for personal devotion. Compact in size but heavily constructed, with an honest, weathered appearance.
Origin: Thailand
Date: ca. 19th century
Material: bronze with original fire gilding
