Antique handmade bronze Ganesha statue from the 19th century, originating from the Himalayas or North India. The statue depicts Ganesha in a relaxed reclining posture on a daybed, a rare and playful iconographic variant that significantly differs from the more formal seated representations. The design, asymmetry, and clear differences between the left and right sides confirm manual craftsmanship and not serial production.
The surface shows a lived-in patina with signs of wear consistent with prolonged use and age. In recessed areas, remnants of old gilding are visible, with natural oxidation underneath. The underside and construction indicate a traditionally cast statue without modern interventions. One leg is missing, which is consistent with age and use and does not detract from its authenticity.
