This hand-signed traditional Naruko Kokeshi is crafted from solid Mizuki wood (dogwood) and belongs to the iconic Naruko school from Miyagi Prefecture in Northern Japan. The statue dates from the Middle Showa period (approx. 1965-1980) and was entirely turned and painted by hand by the renowned Kokeshi master Tomohiro Kakizaki. With a height of exactly one Shaku (30.2 cm), this piece is one of the most beloved sizes among collectors of authentic Japanese folk art.

The Philosophical & Historical Significance
Traditional Kokeshi dolls have been manufactured in the hot springs of the Tohoku region since the Edo period. Each region developed its own style, with Naruko being regarded worldwide as one of the most recognizable and beloved Kokeshi schools.
