The Philosophical & Historical Significance

Traditional Kokeshi dolls have been manufactured in the hot springs of the Tohoku region since the Edo period. Each region developed its own style, with Naruko being regarded worldwide as one of the most recognizable and beloved Kokeshi schools.

  • Naruko Style: Characteristic features include the refined face, the red side locks (Bin-kami), and the decorative horizontal ring patterns (Shima-moyo) on the body.
  • Traditional Craftsmanship: The doll is entirely hand-turned from solid Mizuki wood and brush-painted according to centuries-old techniques passed down within the family workshops.
  • Original Signature: The underside bears both the designation 'Naruko-gata' and the signature of Master Tomohiro Kakizaki, confirming the origin and maker.
