This monumental sculpture depicts a Kinnara, a celestial being from Burmese mythology that is half human and half bird. The Kinnara symbolizes universal love, fidelity, and the beauty of the arts. This statue is a beautiful example of Burmese woodcarving from the early 20th century.

The statue is hand-carved from solid tropical hardwood. The costume is richly decorated using the traditional 'hman-zi shwe-cha' technique: a combination of refined gilding and inlaid glass pieces that beautifully catch the light.
