This old Mahayana travel statue with a kalasha was made to be close. The compact size and sturdy weight suggest a personal devotional object that was carried, held, and used, not a decorative statue for a permanent display. The figure carries a kalasha, the ritual vessel representing life energy, purity, and spiritual abundance, a motif originating in India and adopted primarily within the Mahayana tradition in Southeast Asia.
The surface shows remnants of old gilding and a natural, recessed patina consistent with long-term use. The bottom is closed, which sets this statue apart from classic Thai traditions and aligns better with Mahayana-inspired workshops in the Khmer or Javanese style. These are statues not made to impress, but to guide.
For the owner, this is a statue that brings peace and focus. It feels like an old everyday object with a distinct presence: small, but concentrated. The combination of age, iconography, and tangible signs of use makes this a reliable and convincing travel image with lasting value.
