This bronze Buddha depicts Shakyamuni in Bhumisparsha mudra, the earth-touching posture that symbolizes enlightenment. The statue is shown seated on a lotus base, with a serene facial expression, elongated earlobes, and a soberly modeled monk's robe.
The statue is hollow-cast in bronze using the traditional lost-wax technique. The bottom was originally closed and was broken open in the past. Remnants of the original earth core are visible in the opening, along with natural oxidation and mineral deposits. This indicates pre-industrial manufacturing and long-term ritual use. There are no modern materials, glues, or restorations present.
The surface displays an even, natural patina with smooth wear on protruding parts such as the hands, knees, and face. This wear is consistent with devotional use over a long period.
Based on casting technique, patina, design, and wear, this statue can be attributed to Burma (Myanmar) and dated to the 18th to 19th century. It is a functional temple statue, not a decorative export object.
