South Indian bronze sculpture of Shiva with his son Ganesha, depicted in an intimate and protective embrace. Shiva is shown seated with young Ganesha on his lap, a meaningful motif symbolizing divine paternal love, protection, and the transmission of wisdom. This depiction is less formal than classical temple iconography and emphasizes Shiva's human and approachable side.
The sculpture is crafted from solid bronze and displays refined details in the jewelry, facial expressions, and attributes, including Shiva’s trident and snake motif. In various recessed parts, remnants and discolorations are visible, indicating original gilding, now largely lost due to age and use. The natural green patina and signs of wear are consistent with long-term aging. The underside is open and roughly finished.
Origin South India. Dating: 19th to early 20th century. Height approximately 28 cm, width approximately 16 cm, weight 5.75 kg. A rare and distinctive Hindu sculpture with a clear spiritual aura.
