South Indian bronze statue of Shiva with his son Ganesha, depicted in an intimate and protective pose. Shiva is shown seated with the young Ganesha on his lap, a meaningful motif symbolizing divine fatherly love, protection, and the transmission of wisdom. This representation is less formal than classical temple iconography and emphasizes the human and approachable side of Shiva.
The statue is crafted from solid bronze and displays refined details in the jewelry, facial expression, and attributes, including Shiva’s trident and snake motif. In various recessed areas, remnants and discoloration are visible, indicating original gilding, now largely disappeared due to age and use. The natural green patina and signs of wear are consistent with prolonged aging. The underside is open and roughly finished.
Origin: South India. Dating: 19th to early 20th century. Height approx. 28 cm, width approx. 16 cm, weight 5.75 kg. A rare and characterful Hindu statue with a clear spiritual aura.
