Standing bronze Guanyin, originating from China, 19th century. The figure is depicted in a calm, frontal pose on a lotus base, holding a ritual attribute in his hands. The facial expression is serene and restrained, characteristic of Guanyin as the bodhisattva of compassion and protection.
The statue is cast in a copper alloy with natural wear and an evenly developed patina. The underside is closed and shows signs of age consistent with traditionally cast domestic and temple statues from this period. The proportions, drapery, and lotus base are consistent with examples of the Late Qing style.
A classic Chinese devotional statue, intended as a protective and harmonizing object for the home or altar.
