Thai Bronze Theppanom Temple Guardian – Buddhist Guardian Angel – 21.7 cm

Specifications: H 21.7 × W 7 cm | Weight: approx. 800 grams | Solid Cast Bronze | Dating: ca. 1950–1980 | Origin: Thailand | Handmade (Single) Are you looking for a powerful Asian cultural piece for your interior and do you want to buy an authentic Thai temple guardian? We proudly present this finely detailed, vintage Theppanom guardian angel from the mid- to late 20th century. This solid bronze statue depicts the mythological angel in a traditional kneeling greeting posture, the so-called Añjali Mudra. This type of sculpture was traditionally placed at Buddhist temples and palaces to keep negative energies out and protect the sacred space.

At 1stbuddha, we do not sell decoration, but heritage.

Iconography and Natural Patina

This sculpture is crafted entirely from solid cast bronze and has developed a beautiful, dark, and naturally weathered patina over the decades. Under the influence of time, subtle traces of green-gray oxidation are visible, contributing to the visual depth and historical appearance of the bronze casting. It is a powerful example of symbolic Asian wood and bronze art for the interior, ideal for a serious collection, a home altar, or as a spiritual focal point.

  • Refined Details: The facial features, the rich clothing decorations, and the characteristic flame-shaped elements demonstrate meticulous Thai craftsmanship.
  • Intact Headdress: The extremely fragile, pointed top of the traditional royal headdress (the Chada) has remained completely intact and undamaged.
  • Unique Character: Although Theppanom statues were originally often cast as a symmetrical pair, this standalone, characterful example possesses sufficient aesthetic and spiritual power on its own to dominate a space. This underscores the character of authentic older Asian craftsmanship.
